Khileriat: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has announced that the ruling alliance partner People’s Democratic Front (PDF) will merge with his National People’s Party (NPP) on May 6. The announcement was made at a public meeting held Kreit village yesterday while campaigning for party candidate Samlin Malngiang contesting from Sohiong constituency.

“Today, the PDF held its central executive meeting, in which it was decided that the PDF as a party will merge with the NPP along with all their MLAs and party leaders in Shillong on May 6,” he said.

The PDF was tight-lipped over the merger till yesterday after its internal meeting of its executive committee members. Banteidor Lyngdoh, the PDF MLA in the Assembly simply said that everything will be done very soon, openly, at the right time and with the consent of all.

The PDF has two MLAs in the Meghalaya Assembly and the merger will increase the NPP’s strength to 28 in the 60-member House.
