Diphu :  ‘Pirbi-Karbi Ethnic Haat’ instated by the national highway at Kohora in the fringe of Kaziranga National Park of Assam is a new target for the global tourist hunting for speckled ethnic and organic products. This place bears the characteristics of the Karbi community of Assam. Pirbi, a Karbi word meaning biosphere, implies closeness to the purity of nature. 

The project is the brainchild of reputed NGO Aaranyak, it’s a step towards the community-owned trade model promoted by Aaranyak in harmony with International Union for conservation of nature, the organization established on 5th October 1948, this organization works with government and civil organization globally for community-based conservation and management of biodiversity

Pirbi is a showroom of Karbi ethnic products with sensible value addition on nutrition, hand-woven dresses, handicrafts, souvenir Karbi philosophy. “Pirbi is a community business for supporting ethnic products that authorize communities to generate market connections. 

Pirbi shall donate 12 percent of its profit for biodiversity conservation and community development in this same region and an additional five per cent profit will be shared with the growers, collectors and artisans. The project took almost two years to receive proper cooperation from the community

The project was formally inaugurated on March 11; by former Member of Parliament Dr. Jayanta Rongpi, he cherished the initiative and Aaranyak for encouraging Karbi ethnic products and highlighted significance of marketing support to the marginalized growers, so that the surroundings are conserved through narrow abuse.
