GUWAHATI: Huge quantity of wildlife articles of rare species of wild animals have been recovered from a shop near Kamakhya under Khanamukh Beat of Guwahati Forest Range on Tuesday night.Two traders Santosh Kumar Gupta (44) and Sangit Gupta (35) of Darbhanga, Bihar have been arrested under the Wildlife Protection act 1972 in this connection.

The recovery includes tiger claws, skull bone of jackals, spikes of porcupine, genitals of monitor lizard, deer musk, deer antler, sea cowries, sea conchs, sea fans, corals, jackals teeth etc,” said Pranjan Baruah, Range Officer, Guwahati Forest Range.

“The joint operation was conducted by Guwahati Forest Range under Kamrup East Forest Division along with Kamakhya Police Outpost in two shops based on a specific input regarding illegal wildlife trade of schedule species,” Baruah said.

Beat Officer of Khanamukh Beat, Jintu Talukder along with Incharge of Kamakhya Police Outpost SI Abhilekh Talukder conducted the operation under the supervision of Divisional Forest Officer, Rohini Ballave Saikia and Range Officer Pranjal Baruah.
A case bearing number G/61 of 2023 under the WLP Act 1972 has been registered against the two traders in this connection.

The accused were produced before the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate of Kamrup Metro on Wednesday and remanded to judicial custody.
