Poppy Plants Destroyed In Churachandpur District of Manipur

As Manipur state authorities continued their drive against illicit drugs and poppy cultivation, a poppy plantation on about 15 acres of land was destroyed at D. Lhangjol Village, Churachandpur District on Thursday.Churachandpur district administration with the active supervision and physical presence of Deputy Commissioner Sharath Arroju along with police and state security forces destroyed the poppy plantation in the area near D. Lhangjol Village along Sugnu Churachandpur Road.

The team destroyed poppy plants grown on more than 15 acres of land in the forest area and found many illegal materials used for the plantation of poppy cultivations during the drive.

After the destruction drive, the DC Sharath Arroju warned that legal actions will be initiated against defaulting village chiefs and the concerned poppy cultivators. The DC further said that the district administration strives to bring about a drug free atmosphere in the district and will continue the drive against drugs in the days to come.

Thienlaljoy Gangte, ADC, Lalringum Pulamte, Dy. Commandant, 1st IRB, Deshorjit, Addl SP, and other subordinate staff joined the drive.
