Chief Minister of Manipur, N. Biren Singh on September 1 launched POSHAN Maah, a part of the national nutrition mission which was introduced in the country on March 2018 to improve nutritional status of children up to 6 years, adolescent girls, pregnant women and lactating mothers to achieve specific targets of reducing low birth weight babies, stunned growth, undernutrition and prevalence of anemia for three years.

To ensure the strict implementation of POSHAN Maah, district-level monitoring committee and block-level monitoring committee constituted by concerned deputy commissioners, district social welfare officials, officials of Health Department to be formed to monitor and review the activities of the Anganwadi centers across the state said the chief minister.

“Such measures if implemented properly will contribute in achieving the dream of the Prime Minister to make India a malnutrition free country,” said the chief minister, N. Biren Singh while speaking as the chief guest at the launched of POSHAN MAAH (national nutritional month) held at Imphal on September 1. 

The chief minister appealed to all concerned individuals engaged in Anganwadi works and other government schemes to serve the people with sincerity, dedication so that the deserving people receive the schemes and benefits.

He said that the Prime Minister of the country launched POSHAN MAAH in 2018 after seeing the negative impacts of malnutrition in society. Prime Minister of the country has introduced many welfare schemes with a human touch, which no other Prime Minister of the country had done and achieve said Biren and urge all government employees to follow the footstep of Prime Minister to bring a positive change.

While saying that various schemes and measures have been taken up by the State government to eradicate poverty in the State, Biren further said that the need to constantly monitor whether the people are getting the benefits of the welfare schemes at the grassroots and urged the people of the State to take the benefits of the schemes initiated by the government.

Mentioning about the current rainfall deficit facing the state, the chief minister also said that preventive and precautionary measures have been taken up to cope with the situation with the government planning to provide alternative crops to the farmers of the State, said Biren.

Stating that the government is focusing on improving government schools with introduction of School Fagathansi Mission to provide quality education to the children, chief minister also informed that the government schools in the State have recorded the highest pass percentage above 74 percent in High School Leaving Certificate  exam this year, which shows that the quality of education in government school is increasing day by day, he added.

During the function, the chief minister handed over an appointment letter to Khangembam Bijaya, sister of late Khangembam Santosh of Thoubal Athokpam who was killed in police firing at Ukhongsang mayai Leikai, Kangjeibung under Nongpok Sekmai. Khangembam Bijaya has been appointed as Graduate Teacher at Government Ideal Blind School, Takyel under a compassionate appointment.
