The power struggle within the BJP in the BJP led Manipur government is speaking with both the dissident camp who wants chief minister N Biren Singh removed and the incumbent chief minister himself rushing to Delhi to resolve the political crisis within the saffron brigade.

Earlier the dissident camp leader, Th. Biswajit Singh had rubbished media reports that there is a leadership crisis within the BJP and accused the media of speculating that he said has created an atmosphere political instability in the state. Ironically, the young Turk is currently canvassing for the change of leadership with the party leaders in Delhi along with a handful of BJP MLAs loyal to him.

Meanwhile, in a significant development, Manipur legislative speaker, Yumnam Khemchand has also rushed to Delhi after he was summoned by party leaders. In the event of central leadership opting to drop N Biren Singh caving in to dissident camp pressure, Yumnam Khemchand’s name figures in the favourable list of probable CMs with his strong RSS credential. Political analysts however are speculating that the BJP may opt for keeping the state legislative assembly in animated suspension and clamping President’s rule if the situation worsens.

For Chief Minister N Biren Singh, despite his sparkling track records of achieving targets in terms of tackling the myriads problems compounding Manipur when he took over from the Congress in March 2017, the power crisis has literally laid seize on the functioning of his government.

On two occasions, the desperate attempts by the chief minister to negotiate a settlement have failed with most of the BJP MLAs choosing not to attend the meeting called by the chief minister.

Only 6 MLAs including the CM attended a crucial meeting called by the CM to hear the grievances of the dissidents to resolve the on-going crisis with the party, brewing for over a month. Earlier on Wednesday, the chief minister had to postpone the meeting of the BJP MLAs, including the eight Congress turncoats and ministers of the coalition government. Reportedly out of the 39 MLAs, including the ministers and Congress turncoats, only 9 showed up for the meeting, forcing the CM to reschedule it the next day.

Following the continued canvassing in Delhi by the dissident camp, chief minister, N Biren Singh has also left for Delhi on Friday with few of his cabinet ministers to appraise the central leadership on the power crisis and is likely to urge the party leaders to take a concrete measure to resolve the issue.
