Imphal : Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh is worrying about adequate rainfall during this monsoon season prompting all households to harvest rainwater. The CM was speaking while launching the Swachhata Hi Seva in the State at Imphal on Saturday.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Manipur received only 47% of its normal rainfall so far this season. The average annual rainfall ranges from 1250 mm to 2700 mm. The months of November, December, January, and February remain dry and the remaining eight months are more or less rainy.

Expressing serious concern about the lack of rainfall and the ecological imbalance, the Chief Minister called for unity among all sections of the society including government officials, the general public, and elected members in making Manipur a lively State by taking part in tree plantation drives, safeguarding water bodies, etc.

Based on historical data, month-wise normal rainfall should be 12.8 mm in January, 38.8 mm in February, 76 mm in March, 122.9 mm in April, 173.6 mm in May, 262.6 mm in June, 240.3 mm in July, 201.5 mm in August, 157.5 mm in September, 124.9 mm in October, 35 mm in November and 14.9 mm in December.
