IMPHAL : Altogether, 700 widows residing in the Moirang assembly constituency in Manipur’s Bishnupur district were provided rice and essential household items in a function jointly organized by the Dev Pro India and New Life Foundation on Sunday.

The eatable items were provided as a first phase program in response to the Manipur Natural Disaster held at the Naransena Community Hall in Bishnupur district on Sunday. The second phase program will be conducted on August 5, 2024, at Thamnapokpi village in the same district.

The widows from several villages including Khudekpi, Tronglaobi, Ngangkhalawai, Naransena, Sugnu Siphai, Phubala, Moirang Municipal Council Ward number one, 3, 4, and 12 from the Moirang assembly segments were given the benefits of rice, fermented dry fish, salt packets, edible oil etc.

Speaking on the occasion Dr Lamabam Pishak, general secretary of the New Life Foundation of Manipur unit, announced to select more targeted beneficiaries from different villages of the same district in the coming days.

A widow expressed her happiness for getting the benefits when the state is facing hardships owing to the ongoing communal violence between two communities. Additionally, these villages in Bishnupur are interdistrict with Churachandpur, the epicentre of the communal violence that erupted on May 3, 2023.
