Executing work with sincerity and dedication will lead to development and prosperity in the State said the chief minister of Manipur and claimed the water scheme as one of the biggest achievement of the state government.
Manipur Chief Minister, N. Biren Singh inaugurated the Waithoupat Water Supply for augmentation of water supply scheme at Thoubal district on Monday. The chief minister claims it as one of the biggest achievements of the present state government.
The project cost for the construction of the water supply scheme with a capacity of 18 MLD is Rs. 44.21 crores. The scheme would provide drinking water to Thoubal and its surrounding areas. M/S Keystone Infra Pvt. Ltd. was the implementing agency for the scheme which started construction work in July, 2016.
Addressing the gathering at the inauguration, the chief minister state that “when we executing work with sincerity and dedication it will lead to development and prosperity in the State.”
Chief Minster added that “the focus of the present state government is focusing in sectors like education, health and water supply.”
He also announced that the state government has already taken steps for the conservation and restoration of water bodies and wetlands of the State. “A total of around Rs. 22-25 lakhs has been earmarked in the state budget for the restoration of some lakes of the State,” said N. Biren Singh.
He also informed that under the Jal Jeevan Mission of the Jal Shakti Ministry, the State government had submitted a Detailed Project Report (DPR) amounting to Rs. 2600 crores and the New Development Bank has approved and sanctioned an amount of around Rs. 2900 crores for executing the said mission said, Biren.
Stating that water bodies would be dried up if the forests are not protected and developed, Biren further stated that around 235 villages have approached the government that they are willing to provide at least five acres of land for the development of the forest.
The development of forest comes under the Green Manipur Mission, which was launched to protect and develop forests in the State and also to encourage the citizens to plant more trees.
Minister for PHED, Losii Dikho said that providing drinking water to all the people of the State is the priority of the present government and highlighted the necessity of conserving water.
Stating that it is the duty and responsibility of all to conserve water, the PHED minister also said that it is the long-cherished dream of the government that the Waithoupat Water Supply scheme would provide drinking water in the Thoubal area.
