Sapling distribution and plantation at schools in Dima Hasao

Haflong : As a part of the 74th Vana Mahotsava week, a free saplings distribution and ceremonial plantation program were held at Kendriya Vidhalaya School, Haflong, and Jawaharlal Navoday Vidhalaya School, Shontilla on Monday.

The program was organized by Southern Afforestation Division, Environment & Forest Department Haflong, Dima Hasao, Assam in continuation of Vana Mahotsava from 1-7 July.

During the week-long observation, various programs like awareness rallies, distribution, plantation seedlings, etc. were being organized in various parts of the Dima Hasao district.

The program was initiated by Divisional Forest Officer and Range Officer Mantu Thaosen and received huge appreciation from the school authority.

At JNV, DFO Tanu Langthasa and the Principal of JNV also planted saplings in the presence of Forest Officials to encourage the students. DFO Tanu Langthasa said they have been distributing thousands of saplings of ornamental, fruit-bearing, and also flowering trees throughout the district targeting most of the schools so that the students get a
fair knowledge about the trees and environment.

Principal JNV while appreciating the Forest department said this was a noble and very important attempt of the forest department to encourage the students and others to protect and preserve the environment. He also mentioned the Prime Minister’s aims in preserving the environment of the country.
