The bench said all the matters would be listed for hearing in the first week of October
Supreme Court today examined all the legal petitions against the Centre’s decision to abrogate Article 370, which provided special status to the valley, Jammu and Kashmir.
SC referred the matter to a five-judge Constitution bench, which will be headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi.
The Supreme Court issued a notice to the Center seeking a report within seven days based on a petition filed by Anuradha Bhasin, the executive editor of Kashmir Times, to ease the restrictions on Internet, telephone services and other media in Jammu and Kashmir.
At the time of the hearing, centre’s law officer Tushar Mehta had requested the Supreme Court not to send a legal notice to the government. He informed Tue apex Court that Center and the state would send a report on the petition copy of all the petitioners. However, the Supreme Court rejected it and said that the decision will not be changed. The bench also said all the matters would be listed for hearing in the first week of October.
