School Founder Principal in police remand along with daughter in suspicious death of the student in Manipur

In a significant development to the ongoing investigation by a SIT of Manipur police,  the founder cum Principal of Standard Robarth Higher Secondary School has been taken into police custody along with her daughter who is also the coordinator of the ill-fated school where a 14-year-old girl student was found hanging dead from a bunker bed of her dormitory where 36 girl students sleep. 

Ph. Landhoni and her daughter,  Ph.  Romita was given police remand of 4 days by the duty Magistrate on Sunday. 

Earlier the school founder cum principal’s son,  Ph.  Robinson was given police custody for seven days till August 5 by the law court in the suspicious death of the girl student case. 

Meanwhile at least four protestors were injured and three taken into police custody on Sunday when protestors of the suspicious death case ignored the magistrate’s restraining orders by attempting to march into restricted commercial areas, using loudspeakers. 

The incident happened when police intercepted locals along with volunteers of All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU) volunteers when they started a protest rally heading towards commercial areas.

Earlier at noon, the protest began after a fifth-day ritual ceremony of the deceased student was performed at Haraorou Thagkham, Imphal East. 

The confrontation took place between police and protesters after which the protestors returned to the local public ground and conducted a closed-door meeting.  

“The meeting agreed that members of JAC will start surrendering to police on daily basis as a part of the movement if the police fail to book the whole suspects immediately without delay,” said the convener of the Joint action committee against the killing of Ningthoujam Babysana Chanu, Th. Chittaranjan. 

The injured were rushed to Raj Medicity for first aid and the detained protesters were set free in the late evening
