Setting up of Solar Panels on Vacant Land

Indian Railways plans to set up plants to generate 10 GW under the first phase of the initiative. This will also aid the railways in lowering its energy bill of around Rs 30,000 crore each year.

In reply to a question in Lok Sabha today, Minister of Railways and Commerce & Industry, Piyush Goyal informed in a written reply that Indian Railways (IR) has plans to set up 500 Mega Watt (MW) of Land-based Solar plants, including those on its unused land.  3 MW plant has already been set up on Railway’s unused land he informed. 

A 50 MW set up at Bhilai through Railway Energy Management Company Limited (REMCL). It is planned to be commissioned by March 2021.

1.7 MW at Sukhi-Siwania in West Central Railway (WCR) which is planned to be commission by March, 2020.

2 MW at Diwana in Northern Railway which planned to be commissioned by March 2020, the Minister stated.
