Japanese Former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was shot at a campaign event and is now confirmed dead. He was 67 and was delivering a speech at a campaign event for the ruling Liberal Democratic Party in the city of Nara in western Japan on Friday.

A suspect has been arrested following the incident and remains in custody.

As a mark of our deepest respect for former Prime Minister Abe Shinzo, a one day national mourning shall be observed on 9 July 2022, tweeted PM Narendra Modi.

World leaders are shocked and messaging condolences and remembrances on social media platforms.

Shinzo Abe Japan’s longest-serving Prime Minister died at the age of 67.

It is to be noted that in Manipur the Imphal Peace Museum has an inscription signed by him stating “PEACE”.
