Haflong : As a part of their continuous concern and support, and in solidarity with their beloved Kuki-Zo community, who are victims of Manipur violence, the Kuki Community of Songpijang in Haflong organized a Candlelight Vigil at Songpijang from 7PM on Friday.

The programme was organized at Songpijang Playground by Songpijang Churches Fellowship (SCF) to stand in solidarity with the Kuki-Zo community in Manipur, who continue to bear the brunt of ethnic violence.

The Vigil was attended by thousands of people from every families and all who stay in Songpijang.Besides, many others from greater Haflong town areas also participated in the vigil. The aim of the programme, according to SCF Chairman Rev. Lallun Haolai and Secretary Rev.Henvung Changsan was to express deep concern over the orchestrated pogrom against their brethren Kuki-Zo people in Manipur.

The main message was delivered by Rev.Letlam Lenthang while condolence message was delivered by Rev.David T.Lhouvum with prayer. The theme song was presented by Songpijang Youth Club. They were reminded of how the Meitei mob led by Meitei radicals and Meitei Women group ‘Meira Paibi’ in Manipur reportedly paraded and brutally assaulted Kuki-Zo sisters in broad daylight. They killed her husband and father-in-law and left her unconscious.

More than 122 persons have been killed and hundreds injured. The speakers also said that the ‘Candlelight Vigil’ is reminder of the need for unity and collective action against inhumane violence and injustice. As light dispel darkness, we must over power the power of darkness (sin) with the power of God in good work, good manner, love and respect.

“So, God will show his power as we come together here to support the Kuki-Zo community against the inhumane violence and injustice. May God help us over come this challenges and saves lives and properties with land he has given to our beloved Kuki-Zo brethren in Manipur”.

All the participants condemn the brutality of violence against the killing men and women, even children and old men and women not spared, women were gang raped and killed. Houses and properties burnt to ashes and looted their belongings.

They held condolence meeting to those killed and Candle Vigil was held with condolence meeting. Then, mass prayer was held for the departed soul and for consolation of the bereaved families. They pray for physical, mental and health of those sexually assaulted, injured in the violence and all displaced people.
