Speechless DON, US said ‘internal matter’

Withdrawn of Article 370 is a blow to Pakistan’s diplomatic effort to raise international concern over the developments in India. But United States said in a statement that the Indian government did not consult before going ahead to revoke Article 370. In the statement it was also mentioned that, gave a special status to Kashmir, was the country’s ‘internal matter’ and called for peace in the region. The United States said it was concerned about reports of detentions in the state and following the developments closely. US State Department spokesperson Morgan Ortagus said, “We are concerned about reports of detentions and urge respect for individual rights and discussion with those in affected communities.” Though earlier US President Donald Trump offer to mediate between India and Pakistan on the Kashmir issue. But after withdrawn of that Article Trump has remained conspicuously silent on the matter.
On the other hand, multiple media reports from the US and India said that External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar had informed Secretary of State Mike Pompeo about the decision on Jammu and Kashmir when they met in Bangkok last week. Though the Acting Assistant Secretary of the US government’s Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs (SCA) Alice Wells said, “Contrary to press reporting, the Indian government did not consult or inform the US Government before moving to revoke Jammu and Kashmir’s special constitutional status.”
On condition of anonymity a senior Trump Administration official told, “The United States would welcome improved relations between India and Pakistan, and we will continue to support efforts that reduce tensions and create an environment conducive for a direct dialogue between India and Pakistan.”
