Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has launched a new brand of TMT bar named SAIL SeQR (pronounced as SAIL secure), which possesses features that enhance the safety of buildings. With the unique combined feature of higher strength with better ductility, SAIL SeQR TMT bars are being produced in the new state-of-the-art mill of SAIL’s IISCO Steel Plant (ISP).

The first consignment of 1,540 tonnes of SAIL SeQR TMT bars for distribution in the North-East is scheduled to reach Guwahati this week.

SAIL is primarily focusing on the segment of individual house builders through its retail marketing channel – which is also being strengthened concurrently – to maximize the reach of this brand. SAIL SeQR TMT bars would be available through SAIL Distributors/Dealers initially in the eastern and north-eastern states and thereafter rolled out to other areas as production increases steadily at ISP and later from Bhilai Steel Plant as well.

SAIL SeQR TMT bars possess the unique combination of higher strength with better ductility that surpasses the minimum level specified for this class by BIS. Characterised by the best UTS/YS (Ultimate Tensile Strength / Yield Strength) ratio in this class, these bars can absorb more energy when stressed beyond yielding point due to sudden occurrences such as earthquake / tsunami, etc., without any catastrophic failures.

Produced through advanced manufacturing processes, this combination is achieved through automated and sophisticated cooling and following stringent process control. The highly clean steel for SAIL SeQR TMT bars is made by adopting a stringent secondary refining process that ensures lower levels of sulphur and phosphorus as well as gaseous content, imparting internal soundness to the bars and making them resistant to both hot and cold shortness.

Bringing marked improvement in the quality of TMT bars, SAIL SeQR bars, having prominent and uniform rib pattern, provides stronger bond with concrete. Moreover, these bars possess the property of superior bend ability – allowing easier bending with less effort – resulting in easier onsite fabrication.

SAIL SeQR TMT bars are available in the length of 12 metres initially in sizes varying from 8 mm to 20 mm in diameter.
