As many as 76 textbooks and reference books for Manipuri subject (Meetei Mayek version) in Bachelor of Arts are being made accessible and downloadable at the website of the directorate (dlpimanipur.gov.in).
As a part of the observance of Manipuri Language day, the speaker of the Manipur Legislative Assembly launched the Manipuri online dictionary and Meitei Mayek(original script of Meiteis) textbooks at Jawaharlal Nehru Dance Academy, on Tuesday.
Earlier, students in the state were facing inconveniences annually in getting study materials as most of the Manipuri textbooks went out of publication and are no longer available in the market.
Moreover, after the introduction of Meetei Mayek language in studying Manipuri in graduation in 2017, the Manipuri offering students were compelled to continue without proper books as authority concerned failed to provide the Meetei Mayek version of books in the syllabus books timely.
As many as 76 textbooks and reference books for Manipuri subject (Meetei Mayek version) in Bachelor of Arts are being made accessible and downloadable at the website of the directorate (dlpimanipur.gov.in).
Besides, two other books namely, Online Advanced Learners’ Dictionary of Manipuri-English and Manipuri Version of Important National Schemes have also been made available at the website.
Directorate of Language Planning and Implementation (DLPI), the government of Manipur has started providing Meetei Mayek textbooks for BA Manipuri online through its website. Director, DLPI, L. Mahabir, also said that the directorate will put efforts to make more Manipuri books available on the website in the near future.
The Meiteiscript or MeeteiMayek is one of the official languages of the Indian state of Manipur.
It was used until the 18th century when it was replaced by the Bengali alphabet. A few manuscripts survive. In the 20th century, the script experienced a resurgence and is now used again.
