Mob forcefully barges into the residence of PWD minister Govindas Konthoujam
Imphal: Sulking mob had carried out a ghastly attack on the residence of Manipur PWD minister Govindas Konthoujam on Wednesday evening.
This incident once again displayed the tense situation in Manipur as peace continues to evade the people of the violence-hit state.
According to sources, the mob forcefully barged into the residence of the minister concerned and destroyed many valuable items, including furniture and files.
The minister was not at his residence, sources said. However, on the other hand a group of women too hit the streets and staged a dharna in Moirang—Lamkhai—Thinungei stretch on Wednesday.
This demonstration was staged to block the convoys of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Rapid Action Force (RAF) from proceeding further to Moirang, where fresh tensions arose following the killing of one person and the injury of another.
On hearing this incident Bishupur police rushed to the spot and dispersed the mob from the site of protest demonstration. Police sources said that there were no casualties.
The protestors were seen raising slogans for a ‘united Manipur’ and were also calling for the resignation of N Biren Singh who they alleged completely failed to control the situation in the state.
Despite the presence of Army and other Central paramilitary forces the situation in Manipur has remained unchanged and this will surely give goose bumps to the administration.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident on Wednesday suspected militants reportedly opened fire on people living in Churachandpur district, police sources said.
A 30-year-old man Toijam Chandramani was shot dead. He sustained three bullet injuries. Another man aged 31 years Aribam Rishikesh sustained pellet injuries in that incident, sources said.
