Swami Satyamitranand Giri Maharaj, a renowned seer, passed away at Dehradun in Uttarakhand today after a prolonged illness.

Swami Satyamitranand Giri Maharaj, a renowned seer, passed away at Dehradun in Uttarakhand today after a prolonged illness. 

The 87-year-old head of Bharat Mata Janhit Trust was undergoing treatment for some time at a hospital. Swami Avadeshanand Giri Maharaj said, the Samadhi will be at Haridwar-based Raghav Kutir tomorrow.

President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have condoled the demise of the spiritual leader.

President Kovind said in a tweet that Swami Satyamitranand, a recipient of Padma Bhushan, contributed immensely to society and dedicated his entire life for the welfare of underprivileged people.

Mr Naidu said, the spiritual leader rendered invaluable services and established Samanvaya Seva Foundation to serve poor people from tribal and hilly areas by providing free education and medical facilities.

Mr Modi said Swami Satyamitranand epitomised spirituality and wisdom. He devoted his life towards empowering the poor, marginalised and downtrodden.
