Techniche, 21st edition of the annual techno-management festival of IIT Guwahati, organised the 11th edition of Guwahati Half Marathon on 25th August. The event was organised to raise awareness on clean and safe drinking water. Around 3000 enthusiasts participated in the event.
The theme of this edition of the marathon was ‘Run for Clean and Safe Drinking Water’ which appeals to be a part of change intended by creating awareness for saving clean water for the present and future generations.
As there is a huge problem of water shortage in India and across various parts of the world, this year, the Guwahati Half Marathon has partnered up with Piramal Sarvajal to contribute towards the cause of cleaning water source.
The Half Marathon is one of the largest events of its kind to be organised by any student body in this part of the country.
The Marathon was flagged off by Mister World 2018, Gopal Rabha and Indian hockey player Chinglensana Singh at the Bhogeshwari Phukanani Indoor stadium, Dispur.
The Half Marathon was held across different categories like Spirit Run, Glory Run and Courage Run.
The Glory run was a 21 km event where any person above the age of 14 years was eligible to participate with the registration fee being Rs 400.
The ‘Courage Run’ is a 6-km event for the differently-abled. The Spirit Run is a 6km event open to all without any age restriction and is held separately for men and women. But for the General Championship, only schools and colleges can take part.
The gathering was a confluence of some of the most logical and technically proficient brains.
