Unknown miscreants set on fire over ten houses along National Highway 2 located between Makhan Khuman and New Makhan, under Senapati district of Manipur in the wee hours of 17 September.

According to sources more than hundred miscreants suspected to be volunteers of Maran Khullen Circle Union armed with sophisticated arms destroyed and burnt the houses. They threw petrol bombs into the houses. The houses were ransacked and raze to the ground by the miscreants who fled from the scene after 10 to 20 minutes.

Denouncing the act, Makhan People Organisation banned vehicular movement along Imphal-Dimapur highway demanding the arrest of the miscreants within 24 hour. However the blockade was later called off after due assurance made by the state government to take up necessary action within 72 hours in the presence of Minister of Tribal Affairs and Hills and Fisheries Manipur N. Kayisii, Chairman of Autonomous district council Senapati district A. Kapani, depuy commissioner Senapati, Somorjit Salam, additional SP of the district, and other civil society leaders.

The issue is suspected to be an outcome of land disputes between the two parties.
