Surcharged atmosphere in Shillong
Shillong: As if Manipur was not enough, on Thursday evening tension gripped Shillong following an alleged assault on two taxi drivers at the Police Bazar locality of the city by six miscreants.
This incident irked the taxi drivers who registered their protest on Friday by suspending their services. This protest brought the city to a standstill as the drivers demanded for the immediate arrest of all the six miscreants who allegedly assaulted the two taxi drivers.
According to sources, the injured taxi drivers are undergoing treatment at civil hospital. Their identities could not be ascertained so far.
Huge traffic congestion was also witnessed in Shillong on Friday, sources said. The civil society organizations too hit the streets and called for the immediate arrest of all the culprits.
Punjabi Colony also witnessed the wrath of civil society groups who gathered in the area in large numbers alleging that the six miscreants are from Punjabi Colony.
Meanwhile, Meghalaya police jumped into action and has reportedly detained two persons who are now being interrogated at Mawlangkhar police station.
