Former Finance Minister gets separate cell with cot and western washroom
Former finance minister and Congress tall leader P Chidambaram is sent to Tihar jail till September 19 for his alleged involvement in the INX Media case on Thursday.
The verdict was pronounced by Special CBI judge Ajay Kumar Kuhar. P Chidambaram Sent to Tihar Jail For 14 Days.
The Delhi Court had earlier declined his request to free him on bail.
Special Judge Ajay Kumar Kuhar sent Chidambaram to judicial custody till September 19, allowing him to carry his medicines to jail. Considering that he has Z-level security, the court directed that Chidambaram be kept in a separate cell. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta assured the court there will be adequate security for Chidambaram in jail.
HC rejected the former home minister’s request for an anticipatory bail in two cases being investigated by CBI and ED.
The CBI told the court that Chidambaram can be sent to judicial custody as he was a powerful public person and should not be set free. Sibal opposed the CBI saying there was no allegation that Chidambaram tried to influence or hamper probe. Sibal added, “Chidambaram was ready to go to the ED custody in money laundering case related to the INX Media in which the apex court had Thursday dismissed his plea challenging the High Court’s August 20 order.”
