The fees of Class 10 and 12 board examinations, were hiked by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). On Sunday, CBSE   increased the fees of Class 10 and Class 12 board examinations by up to Rs 1,150, the first hike in the last five years. For general category students for both Class 10 and 12  fees were doubled from Rs 750 to Rs 1,500 for five subjects. The SC and ST students paying Rs. 350 earlier will now pay Rs.1,200.

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Monday has directed the education department to work out a formula so that the students do not have to bear the burden of paying the hiked fee. Delhi Government is the greatest shareholder of CBSE. Manish Sisodia has urged that such moves would compel the Delhi Government to form a separate board. The Minister has also directed the Directorate of Education (DoE) to work out a formula to ease the burden on students of both General and Reserved categories.

It has been learnt that previously the SC/ST students had to pay Rs. 50 and the remaining amount was paid by the Delhi Government. But now the full amount of Rs. 1200  is to be paid by the students. If the Delhi government wishes to reimburse or pay the fees, it would be an internal arrangement between Delhi government and the schools.

The Delhi government is working out the modalities to pay the subsidies to ensure that the students are not financially burdened.
