Over 500 good-laden vehicles are stranded on this inter-state road
Imphal : Traffic flow on the Imphal-Silchar road has come to a grinding halt between Awangkhul and Langkhul Khullel in Manipur’s Noneh district due to the fresh land slight on Sunday, a one-day after the traffick movements were restored on this road. Over 500 good-laden vehicles are stranded on this inter-state road.
State officials said that heavy rain struck the landslide at around 7 am but heavy machinery has been pressed into services to clear the road as early as possible. Heavy rain lashed the districts of Noneh, Jiribam, and Tamenglong, uprooting trees and disrupting the power supply in different areas. The MeT Department has stated that the weather will remain cloudy with intermittent rain till August 26.
On Tuesday, this interstate road witnessed a similar situation as well when a major landslide kept it blocked for at least 4 days. The traffic flow was resumed late Saturday, but the fresh landslide today left the highway blocked once again.
The officials said that a team of district administration led by SDO Noney monitored the landslide-affected points along the highway stretch. The clearance of debris is being carried out by NHIDCL deploying heavy machinery.
On Tuesday last the heavy rains triggered landslides blocking 7 portions of the Imphal-Silchar highway affecting the movement of vehicles. One JCB and a truck laden with machines being engaged in the NH-37 repairing works which were swept away below 100 meter gorge by the land slights were also recovered on Friday last.
An official of CAF & PD stated that landslides along NH-37 road halted the transportation of goods for some days but there is nothing to worry about for shortage at the moment and traffic along the key highway would resume soon.
