The advocates and other officials of the West Tripura District Sessions and Judicial Magistrate Court have staged a road blockade in protest against the power outage caused by Cyclone Remal.
The advocates today came out from court and blockaded the road near Fire Brigade Chowmuhani in Agartala which is close to the official residence of Tripura Ministers.
Speaking with reporters, senior advocate of the West Tripura District Sessions and Judicial Magistrate Court, Sandip Datta Chowdhury, said that blocking the road as advocates is an extreme decision and it is a very sad incident.
“For the last three days in the West Tripura District Sessions and Judicial Magistrate Court, all the facilities have been down. Due to the power outage, we are facing drinking water issues, and we are unable to file petitions and other necessary work. We have called Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited, but they are not receiving our calls. We have even visited their office. But so far, nothing has been done,” he said.
He acknowledged that everyone knows this power issue happened due to natural calamities.
“But even after several complaints, we have had no power for the past three days, and they have not taken any initiative to solve it. We were forced to draw the attention of the state government to resolve the issue,” he said.
The advocate mentioned that they will continue their protest until their demands are met.
Tripura Bar Association’s secretary, Kaushik Indu, who also joined the protest, said that it was totally impossible to work in the court due to the power outage. Even renowned advocate of Tripura High Court Pijush Kanti Biswas also condemned it and said the the helpline number was also not working properly.
However, the protest was lifted after Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath has assured of solving the problems.
