Tripura police seizes yaba tablets from various pockets

Agartala: A smuggler identified as Samsuddin was arrested by police in Kaliganj area under Karimganj district of neighbouring Barak Valley district in Assam at midnight last night. Police seized a huge stock of addictive Yaba tablets worth Rs 20 lakhs from Ratanpur village.

Police sources from north Tripura said that acting on a tip-off a police party of Kaliganj police station just across the border with Assam gave a hot chase to a speeding autorickshaw and finally overtook it in Ratanpur area. Having conducted a search operation the police found a stock of Yaba tablets worth Rs 20 lakhs and detained the smuggler Samsuddin, owner of the contraband consignment.

The seized Yaba tablets weighed 1.5 kgs and the autoricshaw from which the consignment had been seized was also detained. The Assam police DSP Gitartha Sharma said that a case under NDPS act will be slapped against the nabbed Samsuddin and the autorickshaw driver. They are being produced in court today and police remand will be sought.

Apart from this, a police party attached to the Ambassa police station made a major seizure of contraband ‘ganja’ (cannabis) yesterday. Sources from Ambassa said that altogether 897 KGs of cannabis worth Rs 2 crores have been seized and two persons have been arrested in connection with the seizure.
