The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a charge sheet against Paresh Baruah, the chief of the banned United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I), and five others for their involvement in a grenade attack on an army camp in Assam’s Tinsukia district last year.

The attack occurred on November 22, 2023, at an Indian Army camp in Kakopathar, Tinsukia.

While no casualties were reported, the NIA stated that the attack was part of a larger conspiracy to target security personnel across the state.

The charge sheet, filed in a special NIA court in Guwahati, accused Baruah and five others of various criminal offences under the Indian Penal Code, Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, and Explosives Substances Act.

According to the NIA, Arunodoy Dohutia is named alongside Baruah as a key conspirator.

They are accused of planning the attacks and deploying cadres to carry them out.

The charge sheet further alleges that Abhijit Gogoi coordinated the planning and execution of the Kakopathar attack, while Bijoy Moran is accused of recruiting local youth for the assault.

Investigations revealed ULFA-I’s use of social media platforms for recruitment, sources said.

The NIA is continuing its probe to identify other individuals involved in the attack and dismantle the terror network.
