Imphal: Union Home Minister Amit Shah reached Imphal on Monday night and held a closed door meeting with the chief minister N Biren Singh at the secretariat where he was briefed about the prevailing situation in the state since the beginning of ethnic clashes on May 3.
The meeting went for more than one hour, sources said. A few decisions were taken at the meeting and it was decided that efforts will be made to restore peace and normalcy in Manipur at the earliest.
On the law and order front, necessary action will be taken to improve the present situation and steps will be taken to build confidence among the common people.
The common people are facing hardships to procure their essential items. In this regard it was decided at the meeting that authorities need to ensure that essential items like petrol, LPG cylinder and other essential items reach the common man in a hassle free manner.
Moreover, the government has decided to provide a financial compensation of Rs 10 lakh, including one job to the family member of the deceased person. It needs to be stated here that out Rs 10 lakh, Rs 5 lakh will be borne by the Central government.
Telephone lines will be reinstalled with the help of BSNL at the earliest—it was too decided at the meeting.
Apart from Shah and Manipur CM other distinguished dignitaries who attended Monday’s meeting included national spokesman of BJP Dr Sambit Patra, union minister of state for home affairs Nityanand Rai, state cabinet ministers Th. Biswajit Singh, Y. Khemchand Singh, Govindas Konthoujam, Th. Basanta Singh, Manipur BJP president A. Sharda Devi, chief secretary of Manipur Vineet Joshi, Manipur DGP P Doungel and security advisor to Manipur CM Kuldiep Singh, union home secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla and Director of Intelligence Bureau Tapan Kumar Deka among others.
