Universities, Higher Educational Institutions to prepare for Fit India Movement; UGC

University Grants Commission (UGC) has written to Universities and Higher Educational Institutions to make preparations for the Fit India movement which is to be launched on 29th August 2019.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his ‘Mann ki Baat’ programme on Sunday, had said that the government would launch the ‘Fit India’ movement with an aim to keep the country fit

UGC Secretary, Prof. Rajnish Jain has said that the Commission has urged the institutions to make necessary arrangements to encourage students, teachers, staff and officials to assemble and take the fitness pledge which will be administered by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the main event in New Delhi.

The VCs of Universities and principals of their affiliated colleges are asked to prepare and promote their respective fitness program plans on their official websites and bulletin boards within a month.

In addition, universities are requested to upload the fitness plans on UGC’s Fit India Movement portal.

The portal is under construction and details will shared as soon as possible. Meanwhile, solid steps will be taken in order to spread the importance of fitness culture across campuses.

He has said, they have also been asked to prepare and implement an Institutional Fitness Plan. 

Prof. Jain said, that the universities and colleges have been requested to ask students, faculty members and officials to walk nearly ten thousand steps and promote healthy practices in the campus.
