In a successful counter-insurgency operation, Manipur police rescued the chief of Dampi village who was abducted on 5th July by unidentified, armed miscreants. The operation also led to the recovered of arms, ammunition, sleeping bags and other equipment used by the kidnappers revealed the Churchandpur district SP, Amrita Sinha.
The intense search operation conducted jointly by district police and Assam Rifles with active coordination with the civil society organizations based in Churachandpur district,
The lady SP said the district police received a complaint that the chief of Dampi Village, Lalboi Lhungdim, has been kidnapped at gunpoint by six unidentified individuals in full combat fatigue, armed with automatic rifles from Saihenjang village at around 10:30 am of 5th July 5. Acting swiftly, the police got intelligence input that the red coloured Bolero SUV used in the abduction was abandoned and set on fire near D Vaison village.
Soon eight police teams of seven personnel each were mobilized to conduct search operations along with three teams of 25th Assam Rifles. Mobile check post was set up and all the possible routes leading to the areas were blocked and cordoned search operations carried out in the vicinity where the abductors were suspected to be around.
Three additional police teams 10 police personnel each was also mobilised on 6th July morning. While cordoned search operations were being conducted, starting from old Teising and moving towards different directions, the victim was rescued from an area near Nepali Basti, between Gelmuol and Teising at around 2:00 pm.
Subsequently, in the continuing massive search operations on 9th July at Teasing Hill and surrounded area, the police teams recovered one AK 56 assault rifle with one magazine, two MA-3 MK-II assault rifle with two magazines, one M4 A1 Carbine with one magazine; one Heckler and Koch HK33 assault rifle with three magazine, and one Chinese-made hand grenade along with one detonator and 1168 rounds of ammunitions.
