Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh visited Tupul Railway Construction Camp, Noney two consecutive days where the unfortunate landslide occurred on 29/30th June leaving several casualties and dozens buried alive. Chief Minister shared his grief with the bereaved family members. In a tweet, he stated today that ‘in the landslide affected sites of Tupul, Ministers of the state Govt, local MLAs and officials are also camping to oversee the rescue operation. The loss of lives, including our armed forces personnel is deeply saddening. We still have over 50 missing persons to be found’

The Chief Minister visited the affected area for two consecutive days by road and is quite disturbed and concerned with the natural calamity that struck the state. In an emergency meeting held in the morning yesterday, the government has decided to provide ex-gratia of Rs. 5 lakhs to the next of kin of those deceased and Rs. 50 thousand to the injured persons. He also informed that all the expenses including medical treatment etc of the injured persons will be borne by the State government.

The Chief Minister visited the site in Tupul today for the second time which was severely devastated by the landslide yesterday and took stock of the rescue operations. Heavy machineries along with ‘Through Wall Imaging Radar’ have also been deployed to expedite the operation stated Biren Singh.

The entire country is deeply saddened by the loss of lives including the armed forces personnel due to the landslides in Tupul echoed Biren in a tweet. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had spoken with the Chief Minister and had assured all possible support from the Centre. PM Modi in a tweet also stated  ‘I pray for the safety of all those affected. My thoughts are with the bereaved families. May the injured recover soon’.

Chief Minister while monitoring the rescue operation had mentioned that the rescue work is underway, with the team comprising of Manipur Police personnel, SRDF, and army personnel being deployed in the area.

The Chief Minister also interacted with the people of the nearby area and expressed his gratitude to the villagers for extending their support and co-operation in the rescue mission.

Ministers K. Govindas, Minister H. Dingo Singh, MP Rajya Sabha Leishemba Sanajaoba, Chairman of Hill Areas Committee  D. Gangmei, Chief Secretary Dr. Rajesh Kumar, Administrative Secretaries, senior Army and Manipur Police officials, and others accompanied the Chief Minister during these two days.
