Prime Minister Narendra Modi has declared his list of cabinet ministers along with their portfolio. He has so far kept Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions; Department of Atomic Energy; Department of Space; and all-important policy issues to himself.  Rajnath Singh who was responsible for the Home ministry has been given the Defence Portfolio whereas the first-time cabinet minister Amit Shah has been given the Home Ministry.

By giving Amit Shah the Home Ministry, it is a clear indication that India is going to play tough this time. Nitin Gadkari who performed well in the previous government has been given the same portfolio of Road Transport and Highways and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises. Nirmala Sitharaman has been given the Finance portfolio whereas former Foreign Secretary Dr Subrahmanyam Jaishankar has been given Ministry of External Affairs.
