3000 plus runners took part in Kakching.
The run is being organised in loving memories of those gallant fighters of The Azad Hind Fauj who fought for India’s Independence alongside the Japanese forces and on the other hand, Indian soldiers were also fighting on the side of the British. Many of them were martyred along with the Japanese and British soldiers.
The historic event, Kakching World War II Memorial Run, Manipur 2019 2nd Edition was organised successfully on Sunday at Kakchin, Manipur, India.
Kakching occupies a prominent place in the history of Second World War fought in Manipur. There was heavy deployment of the Allied Forces in and around Kakching and the Kakching Airfield which served as the nerve-centre of the supply line and offensive moves of these forces. Kakching was the target for the Japanese forces for these reasons.
The first edition there were around 1000 runners who came in from Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore,Mumbai, even from some countries.
3000 plus runners many of them from different parts of India came and participated in this memorable run in supporting the zeal and efforts of Kakching Runners for bringing a healthy society and the environment free from pollution and corruption.
It is praiseworthy that the organizers have made no distinction from whose side the brave soldiers fought as wars throughout history have rendered millions dead and many more injured, besides damaging the economy of both the victor and the vanquished.
This year runners from Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore, Mumbai, Assam, Shillong and host state Manipur participated.
The loss is not only in terms of human life but also in terms of damage to environment and disruption of political, social, cultural and economic systems. With time, the horrors of the Battle of Imphal have eroded and now the opposing parties have become friends.
The Sunday run had two category 25 km run and 8km run. In the 8 km fun run, male and female, young and aged, students and teachers, children and adults and all, more than 1200 runners took part and felt the happiness of running together for a cause of bringing a healthy society.
Run for health, run for fun, run for a cause were the motto behind Kakchin Runners which started with just twenty eight male runners and three ladies way back in 2016.The conception of such activities gave birth to a new beginning of the runners and later it was amended and decided to name the group as “Kakching Runners”.
