Yoga, which is around 5000 year old, is India’s most significant gift that the world has come to acknowledge its importance.
Yoga is mental, physical and spiritual practice. Originally, people used meditation to transform their body and mind. It is only today that the world has finally acknowledged its importance and started exploiting to realize their true potential.
The realization that meditation, which is an integral part of yoga, helps in mitigating stress, keeps the mind focused and in a positive state; in so doing enhanced creativity and productive output, leading to fuller existence is what has awaken the consciousness of the world to Yoga.
This year marks the 5thedition of the World Yoga Day or the International Day of Yoga, after the UN declared 21st June as the day to promote Yoga in the world with as many as 190 countries adopting the ancient Indian tradition into their lifestyle.
Yoga embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfillment; harmony between man and nature; a holistic approach to health and well-being. It is not about exercise but to discover the sense of oneness with oneself, the world and the nature.
Yoga master trainer,Laishram Dixon as Senior Faculty Art of Living Foundation, who works in de-stressing the lives of top-class achievers in Manipur says yoga is a medium which balance the body and the mind bridging the gap. It acts to mediation between the heart and the soul and helps to exploit fuller potential. According to the master trainer, in this age of stressful living and working with impossible deadlines, “Yoga is no longer a luxury but a necessity.”

Going to doctor is good for immediate purpose but to treat the mind and body holistically, Yoga is most effective.
A patient suffering from acute breathing problem with depression, shared her experience. “Yoga is like a magic wand. I don’t take pills for the depression but will not miss my daily asanas. Yoga has become like a food for me,” she said.
