17th International Guwahati Film Festival inaugurated

The 17th International  Guwahati Film Festival will screen 18 films from France, Germany, USA, Canada, Kazakhstan and  Hindi, Garo, Assamese, Bengali and Tamil language films from India

The International Guwahati Film Festival began with the inaugural ceremony at the District Library Auditorium in Guwahati on Wednesday. The 17th edition of this festival organised by the Gauhati Cine Club was announced open by the Chief Guest Filmmaker  Arup Manna in the august presence of the Guest of Honour Rahul Chandra Bora, Commissioner of the Cultural Affairs Department of the Govt. of Assam and Special Guest Producer Shrimati Eva Gunme Marak.

The evening began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the esteemed guests followed by floral tributes paid to eminent theatre and film personality  Kulada Kumar Bhattacharyaa. It is to be noted that  Bhattacharyya was an integral part and an Honorary Member of the Gauhati Cine Club. President Absar Hazarika put forward the opening speech citing the importance of the festival by the age-old Gauhati Cine Club.

The brochure and the cine magazine Chitra Chinta edited by  Priyabrat Lahkar were also launched. Secretary of Gauhati Cine Club Shrimati Madhurima Barua in her speech spoke about the filmmakers especially the young generation for their dedication towards the craft. She acknowledged all the partners associated with curating the event.  Arup Manna and  Rahul Chandra Das spoke on the initiative of the Gauhati Cine Club in its effort to continue to organise this festival for more than a decade.

The evening anchored by Tinat Atifa Masood had the presence of filmmakers  Sanjib Sabhapandit,  Pervez Ahmed,  Chandan Kumar, actor  Kaushik Nath along with many enthusisst cine lovers.

Garo film Rapture directed by Dominic Sangam was the opening film that was followed by a Q&A session with the producer of the film Shrimati Eva Gunme Marak.

The 17th International  Guwahati Film Festival will screen 18 films from France, Germany, USA, Canada, Kazakhstan and  Hindi, Garo, Assamese, Bengali and Tamil language films from India.

Assamese film Mojoli directed by Nabajyoti Bora will have its premier at the festival on December 15. As a tribute to the Late Kulada Kumar Bhattacharya, the Assamese film Dikshow Banat Polaxh directed by Sanjib Sabhapandit will be screened.

The festival is open till December 16 at the District Library Auditorium in Guwahati.
