Arogya Setu mobile app developed by the Govt. of India is aimed to check the spread of COVID-19 during the post lockdown period. With the Coronavirus pandemic growing in at an alarming rate, scientists in many countries are working to find ways to control the spread, once life is back to normal. Accordingly, Government Created the App in a public-private partnership between the government and other agencies under the guidance of the National Informatics Centre (NIC).

Govt of India has launched the Arogya Setu app on 2nd April, recognizing that social distancing is one of the most effective ways of controlling the spread of the disease. This App is a contact tracing solution designed to help break the chain of infection and connect to the healthcare system directly. The app is available in 11 languages at present, includes a self-assessment test and authentic safety measures. So the Aarogya Setu app empowers people with better information on the potential risk of infection, self-assessment tools, and contextual advice.

Aarogya Setu app is an essential tool in our fight against COVID-19. This can subsequently act as e-pass to facilitate travel, stated Prime Minister Narendra Modi while interacting with the Chief Ministers of the state on 11th April through Video Conference.

This app work with the help of Bluetooth and GPS technology. The idea behind this app is that if two individuals – who have the app installed in their phone, come within close proximity of one another, their phones will communicate with each other. If one of the individuals happens to be at risk of COVID-19 the other will immediately be informed through a notification on the app. This way, everyone’s phones will be constantly communicating with each other all day, every day.

If someone comes within close proximity of 10 people during a day, these people are all part of the contact chain, and if, over the coming days, any of these people were to be diagnosed with COVID -19, one would immediately be notified by the app and will be advised to get tested or go into self-isolation because of you had been in close proximity to the patient.

Simultaneously, healthcare authorities would also be notified of these potential risks, enabling them to get in touch with the concerned individuals and provide them with the assistance they need. The recommendations are made leveraging Bluetooth technology, artificial intelligence algorithms and are based on inputs and best practices suggested by expert medical practitioners and epidemiologists.

Government officials, political leaders, journalists have been advocating its use on social and traditional media. They are encouraging people to download and use the app.
