With deep sorrow, the Apunba Imagi Machasing (AIMS) mourns the sudden death of Thoiba Thokchom-a monumental figure in the cultural preservation of Manipur on 7 December 2024. He was an icon of devotion and passion-a life dedicated to the protection and propagation of Manipur’s glorious cultural heritage. His unflinching commitment to preserving such traditional arts as dance, music, and crafts has left an indelible mark on our community.

Through his inspiring work, he lit the fire for culture among the youth, instilling pride and dignity in them. The Manipur diaspora, all over Myanmar, Bangladesh, Assam, and Tripura, were united by his travelling extensively. His documentation on the Puya manuscripts is working to ensure that the divine and cultural wisdom of our parents continues to enlighten us and guide us in the right paths.

AIMS acknowledges his efforts in the conservation of Manipur culture and heritage, the preservation of the Manipur Pony, and the safeguarding of Tangkhul Hui. His legacy will forever be a guiding light for our efforts to carry forward the cultural torch of our state.

His family, friends, and all those blessed to know him deserve our deepest sympathies.  Thoiba Thokchom’s spirit will inspire and influence us and the cultural fabric of Manipur for generations.

May his soul rest in eternal peace.
