Dr.B Borooah Cancer Institute (BBC), Guwahati formally launched the first issue of its official journal Annals of Oncology Research and Therapy (AORT) on 16th August 2021. The first issue of the journal was released by Dr. Rajendra A Badwe, Director of Tata Memorial Center, Mumbai. Dr. Badwe in his speech suggested a special section on the patient’s perspective, case studies, and viewpoints in the journal. He appealed to faculties across all Tata Memorial Centres of India to contribute original research publications for the journal. This journal is the first cancer journal in the North-Eastern region with an aim to cover the length and breadth of the country. The journal has been launched to commemorate the 75th year of India’s independence.
According to Dr.Amal Chandra Kataki, Director of BBCI and founder Editor-In-Chief of AORT, one of the objectives of this journal is to create awareness about the importance of cancer research in this part of the country with relatively higher cancer incidences. This involves epidemiological, clinical, and translational research. Towards that end, BBCI will organize workshops on research methodology, good clinical practice, how to conduct clinical trials, and write research papers. This will benefit young researchers and postgraduate students, further informed Dr.Kataki.
Dr.Manigreeva Krishnatreya, Associate Editor of the journal said, the first issue of the journal contains six research papers and five unique reports of cancer patients. The journal will cover technical and clinical studies related to health, ethical and social issues in the field of medical, radiation, and surgical oncology, cancer imaging, onco-pathology, and other allied oncology disciplines. The journal will publish two issues per year in the beginning and we hope to increase the number of issues per year in the future, stated Dr.Krishnatreya.
Dr Mouchume Bhattacharyya, Deputy Director (Research) and one of the executive editors thanked the Tata Memorial Center for the support to the BBCI in terms of academics and research.
Dr K N Vyas, Chairman of Atomic Energy Commission conveyed his best wishes for the success of the journal.
Prof G K Rath, Head, National Cancer Institute of India, Dr. Sudep Gupta, Director, ACTREC, Dr. C S Pramesh, Director, TMH, Dr. Sidharth Laskar, Deputy Director (Academics), Dr.Pankaj Chaturvedi, Deputy Director, CCE, TMC, Dr. B G Unni from Kerala attended the virtual inaugural program.
