A meeting between Deputy Commissioner Cachar, Assam Keerthi Jalli and Deputy Commissioner East Jayantia Hills, Meghalaya, E.Kharmalki was held on Friday at the forest Inspection Bungalow of Umkiang Meghalaya along with the high officials from both the sides.
This exercise was in pursuance of Election Commission guidelines keeping in view of the ensuing assembly election, 2021. DIG Southern range, Assam Dilip Kumar Dey explained that both the state should work jointly along with all departmental heads to check illegal cash flow, liquor and other detrimental elements which may create mayhem the atmosphere during the time leading to the polls.
The Deputy Commissioners of both the Districts assured working in camaraderie to thwart any such untoward incident during election times.
In the meeting, the Meghalaya administration has been requested by the Cachar administration to curb drug smuggling. Illegal money and light motor vehicles have also been included in the discussion so that no one can cross the border illegally and bring it to Cachar. The strict intervention of the administration has been sought. If there is a need to bring light motor vehicles from Meghalaya for use in the election work, a request was also made at the meeting to Meghalaya Administration. It is learnt that Cachar administration has been assured by the Meghalaya administration that it will be vigilant to curb drug smuggling and ensure that no one can smuggle cash across the border into Assam.
The delegation led by the District magistrate also visited the Bangladesh border. A temple on the Cachar-Meghalaya border was also inspected.
