The Benu Misra Memorial NRL Award 2022 was presented to veteran visual artists of the state Rabiram Brahma and upcoming artist Montu Das at a  function held in Vivekananda Kendra, Uzan Bazar, Guwahati this Sunday. The Award carries a citation, a trophy and cash reward of Rs. 1.5 Lakh each. Supported by NRL as part of its  Corporate Social Responsibility program which among others lays emphasis on promotion of Art and Culture, the Award has been instituted by Gauhati Artists’ Guild in the name  of one of the most accomplished visual artists of the State Late Benu Misra. The award seeks to recognize and honour eminent visual artists of the state in two categories, namely in the veteran category for life time achievement as well as promising upcoming artist.

Veteran Assamese actor Nipon Goswami presided over the award function as Chief Guest while well know film maker Gautam Bora and DGM (Corp.Comm) NRL Madhuchanda Adhikari were the guests of honour. President of Gauhati Artists’ Guild Aminul Haque delivered the welcome address and dwelt on the idea behind the award while General Secretary, Gauhati Artists’ Guild proposed the vote of thanks.

About the awardees :

Born in Rowta in Udalguri District of Assam, Rabiram Brahma has won national and international acclaim  not only an accomplished artist but also a  true art crusader who has single headedly spread art as a medium of expression to change the society specially amongst the younger generation in vast stretches of rural Assam. He established the Artists’ Village in Udalguri in the year 1985, which has nurtured many artistic talents of the state. His contribution to his society, tribe and state Assam is truly praiseworthy.

Montu Das  is a young artist born in Guwahati  who  has already been able to carve a niche for himself because of his artwork which has earned him many national and international accolades. His work has featured in many exhibitions across major cities in the country as well as in many countries of Europe.
