Diplomats from Africa, the Middle East, the European Union and the Caribbean met with BJP’s president JP Nadda at the party’s headquarters in Delhi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the United States and various diplomatic events such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit and G20 has presented itself as a golden opportunity for BJP to shake hands and increase engagement with political parties from across the world, especially from India’s neighbourhood.
Diplomats from Africa, the Middle East, the European Union and the Caribbean met with BJP’s president JP Nadda at the party’s headquarters in Delhi on 5th July 2023. During the meeting, the BJP president explained the party’s history, its journey and some of their key government schemes. The diplomats raised questions such as: “How does the BJP keep getting voted back? How does the BJP take on regional parties? How does the BJP use technology and social media to engage with youth?”
As reported in the media, these efforts are made to counter any misinformation about the party and to also send out the right narrative on India in its neighbourhood. The party will also host a delegation of the ruling Awami League of Bangladesh and the Communist Party of Nepal in the coming weeks. The party will also be in attendance of the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India and China) Political Parties Plus dialogue in South Africa later this year, hosted by the African National Congress (ANC).
The BJP has hosted delegations from Russia, Netherlands, South Africa, Mexico, Colombia, Cambodia, Ethiopia, Maldives and Mali in an effort to strengthen India’s position in the neighbourhood and boost its diplomatic efforts, said the party’s foreign affairs department.
As reported by NDTV, India’s diplomatic efforts are an important part of BJP’s 2024 campaign pitch.
