This book is intended for laymen, nurses, healthcare workers, and general physicians
A book on cancer awareness titled “Triple C (control, cure and care) in Cancer” was released on Thursday by the Governor of Assam Prof Jagdish Mukhi. The book is edited by Dr Amal Chandra Kataki, Director of Dr. B Borooah Cancer Institute. This book is intended for laymen, nurses, healthcare workers, and general physicians. The book release ceremony was attended by Prof G K Rath, former Head of National Cancer Institute, India, Dr Druba Jyoti Bora, Vice Chancellor of Srimanta Sankardeva University of Health Sciences, and renowned Assamese film Director and recipient of Padma Bhushan Jahnu Baruah.
Prof Mukhi highly appreciated the initiative of BBCI to educate the public about cancer. The book covers various aspects of cancer like the risk of getting cancer, nutrition in cancer, cancer burden, common cancers, palliative care, cancer myths, cancer welfare funds, nursing care, psychological aspects of cancer, cancer rehabilitation, and childhood cancers to name a few. The book also narrates the story of cancer survivors and their kin.
The book is dedicated to the public to celebrate Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, which is an initiative of the Government of India to celebrate and commemorate 75 years of independence and the glorious history of its people, culture, and achievements.
According to Dr Kataki, in spite of abundant information about various diseases, people are not well informed about cancer. There is so much misinformation and fear-mongering about this disease in the public domain that common people are scared to even talk about cancer in the open.
Also, the general public may find the scientific literature about cancer difficult to comprehend. This book is a humble effort to collate the complexities of a disease like cancer in a simplified manner. The basic idea of this book is to educate and empower the people in learning the basic truths about cancer, further informed Dr Kataki.
