The concerned Deputy Commissioners would do the survey on whose agricultural farms had not been cultivated and what would be their earning from the agricultural land if cultivated, the CM said
Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Friday announced that the centre has sanctioned an amount of Rs. 38.6 crore as compensation to be provided to those farmers whose agricultural land could not be cultivated due to the present conflict in Manipur.
The announcement was made while the chief minister was distributing benefits under the Special Scheme for Education of Children at Relief Camps for Labour Card Holders at his secretariat, Imphal on Friday.
The concerned Deputy Commissioners would do the survey on whose agricultural farms had not been cultivated and what would be their earning from the agricultural land if cultivated, the CM said. In the ongoing communal violence that started on May 3, 2023, around 2,500 personnel of security forces had been provided for safeguarding farmers while taking up agricultural activities, especially paddy harvesting which is turning its peak season with winter sets in.
Over 9,719 hectares of paddy fields in the Imphal valley might face crop failure due to sporadic firing by miscreants from the foothills in the ongoing communal violence that cost the lives of over 175 individuals.
The five crisis-hit valley districts are Imphal East, Imphal West, Kakching, Thoubal, and Bishnupur. The Bishnupur district is the most affected with 2,191 hectares and Jiribam the least with 37 hectares.
