Assam Minister for Welfare of Minorities and Development, Ranjit Dutta, unveiled the foundation stone of Model Residential School under the under Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram, Ministry of Minority Affairs at Heuwangberam under Mahur  Development block today.

The unveiling was done in presence of North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council, CEM, Debolal Gorlosa, MLA, B.B. Hagjer, Chairperson, NCHAC, Ranu Langthasa and other dignitaries.

Speaking during the function Minister Dutta said, “This residential school which aims at educational empowerment for the students belonging to minority communities, will be constructed at a cost of Rs 30.42 crore.  This will be equipped with all the modern facilities and will be totally free”. He informed that the institute after its completion would have an academic and administrative block, hostels, teachers and staff quarters, guest house and dining-cum-kitchen.

CEM Debolal Gorlosa during his speech urged people to be a focus on working towards the good of this district. With development on its path and education sector developing tremendously under the present government, he is hopeful that if the establishment of such schools continues in Dima Hasao, the district will one day be an Education Hub for the people of this region.

Others who spoke on the occasion were 16-Haflong LAC, MLA, BB Hagjer, Chairperson Ranu Langthasa and Executive Member, Nandita Gorlosa.

Deputy Commissioner, Paul Baruah briefed about the scheme during his welcome speech and the programme concluded with vote of thanks by Ngulminlal Lienthang, MAC of Borail Constituency and Block Level Committee Chairman, Jatinga Valley development block.

Others present during the meeting were Executive Members Lalremsiama Darnei, Namrothang Hmar, Paudaming Nriame, Nipolal Hojai, MACs, Superintendent of Police, Jayant Singh and other officials from the district line departments.

The programme was attended by officials from Guwahati,  Syeda Hasina M. Rahman,  Secretary to the Govt. of Assam, Welfare of Minorities & Development Department and Mahmood Hassan,  Director, Char Areas Development, Assam.
