‘I encourage everyone to visit, enjoy, buy and support our local fish farming community’, the Chief Minister echoed
The 45th State-Level Fish Fair-cum-Fish Crop Competition at Hapta Kangjeibung Palace Compound was organised by the Department of Fisheries, Government of Manipur, here on Saturday.
The fair was inaugurated by dignitaries including Maharaja Leishemba Sanajaoba, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), Heikham Dingo Singh, Minister of Social Welfare, Fisheries and Skill Development, along with several MLAs.
The event is being organized on the eve of the Ningol Chakouba festival, the biggest celebration in the state of Manipur and is a reflection of Fisheries departments commitment to highlighting the importance of sustainable aquaculture and encouraging local fish farming.
This year’s Fish Fair had over 180 stalls with 250 local fish farmers participating from all walks of life, strengthening community ties with the motive to promote and support local producers.
The fair had a variety of Indigenous fish varieties like Ukabi, Ngahei, Tunghanbi, Porom and Sareng as well as Catla, Rohu, Mrigal, Common Carp, Grass Carp, Silver Carp, and Beyond fish etc.
The fair also had agricultural and horticultural products, as well as handloom and handicraft items made by Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from local relief camps.
Chief Minister of Manipur N Biren Singh in a social media post stated that With a targeted fish sale of 1,50,000 kgs this annual event organised ahead of the Ningol Chakkouba, shows the dedication and hard work of our fish farmers, who have come together from across the state to offer fresh, high-quality fish products.
