Prof. Pulok Kumar Mukherjee, Director, IBSD highlighted various initiatives of IBSD for the development of sensor devices to evaluate the therapeutic potential of bioresources through NIR technologies in collaboration with Jadavpur University, Kolkata
Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD) has joined the 9th Asian NIR Symposium being organized by Jadavpur University, Kolkata and Tea Research Association (TRA) Tocklai, Assam from 8-10 December at Biswa Bangla Convention Centre, Kolkata, India with the Theme “NIR Sight-An Illuminating Explorer”.
This symposium is being organized with the Asian NIR Consortium (ANC), an international organization committed to promoting education, research and applications related to near-infrared spectroscopy among Asian countries.
This year, ANS 2024 is being organized for the first time in India to highlight the innovative applications of NIR Spectroscopy in the fields of pharmaceuticals, health and Agriculture. This three-day symposium marks the beginning of a collaboration that can collectively harness the power of NIR Technology in the years to come. Many eminent scientists including Prof. Satoru Tsuchikawa, Nagoya University, Japan; Prof. Hoeli Chung, Hanyang University, Korea; Prof. Federico Marini, University of Rome, Italy; Dr Akifumi Ikehata, NARO, Japan; Dr Daeseo Park, Chungnam National University, Korea; Prof. Eizo Taira, University of Ryukyus, Japan; Prof Byoung-Kwan Cho, Chungnam National University, South Korea joined the event.
IBSD is working in collaboration with Jadavpur University for the quality evaluation of bioresources through NIR spectroscopy. During the inaugural session, Prof. Pulok Kumar Mukherjee, Director, IBSD highlighted various initiatives of IBSD for the development of sensor devices to evaluate the therapeutic potential of bioresources through NIR technologies in collaboration with Jadavpur University, Kolkata.
He mentioned that IBSD is already working in collaboration with Jadavpur University on the DBT-funded project on the development of sensing systems for rapid and in situ quality assessment of Black rice, Ginger, Elsholtzia griffithii and Cinnamomum zeylanicum of NER using spectroscopic (NIR and Raman) technologies. He also highlighted some of the leads in this direction for the development of NIR-based biosensor devices.
IBSD is an Institute in the North Eastern Region under the Biotechnology Research and Innovation Council (BRIC), Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Govt. of India having its presence in Imphal, Manipur; Gangtok, Sikkim; Aizawl, Mizoram; and Shillong, Meghalaya. The institute is working on Bioresources development and their sustainable use through biotechnological interventions for the socio-economic growth of the region with the major goal of scientific management of bioresources in the Indian region falling under the Indo-Burma Biodiversity Hotspot. IBSD is promoting bioresources of NER and synergising research areas for catalysing the growth of entrepreneurship and startups in the region for livelihood generation and boosting the bioeconomy with different perspectives.
Many scientists, and researchers from India and other Asian countries participated in the symposium in Kolkata, India
