International Bengali channel honours three famous Northeast poets

A trio of poets from Northeast India – Ashutosh Das, Kasturi Hom Choudhury, Jamuna Lairenjam – received an award from the international Bengali channel NRB News24.com – for practicing Bengali literature – on Monday, coinciding with the death anniversary of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore.

Poet and screenwriter Ashutosh Das hails from the Hailakandi district of Barak Valley in Assam and has reached an international level through various creative works. Ashutosh Das has written the scripts of 12 national level telefilms. He has 13 different prose books to his credit. Among his written books is ‘Malinibilar Akhyan’ – a historical research novel.

Researcher Yasmin Nihar of Assam University has researched the writings of Ashutosh Das. The works of the poet have been translated into various languages. Ashutosh Das is also the editor of the little magazine “Belbhoomi”.

Prominent Manipur writer and educationist Jamuna Lairenjam has been awarded for translating a poem by rebel poet Nazrul Islam. She is a renowned poetess and author of modern Manipuri literature. She is a native of the Cachar district of Assam by birth. She moved to Manipur after marriage.

Veteran poet multi-talented educationist Kasturi Hom Choudhary has received this International award for her diverse writings. She is the editor of a small magazine named ‘Amrapali’. Kasturi Hom Choudhary has several books of prose and poetry.

These three renowned poets participated in various virtual programmes on the NRB News24.com channel at different times.
