Farmers have attributed the whole situation to the sand mafias
Dilawjan region of Bokajan Sub-Division is facing a drought like situation due to insufficient rainfall during the last agricultural season; sudden drought has affected paddy cultivation particularly; maximum standing paddy is drying up in the field before harvest.
Vast paddy field bracketing together village Dilawjan, Kuj gaon, Dubajan, Balipathar, and parts of Sarihajan (Hanjanglangso), are facing a grim situation of bad harvest; the frustrated farmers have allowed their cattle to munch of the immature paddy decaying in the field.
Farmers have attributed the whole situation to the sand mafias, according to the victim farmers, the massive measure of sand excavation has necessitated the adoption of counter environment practice flouting all ecological norms, this has contributed to decreasing of water level of the contiguous river.
The sand barons have built impermanent barriers in the upper course of the river and have held back the natural flow of water; the altered course of water has found a way around the irrigation structure which used to hose down water in the nearby farming lands of the locality. The artificial diversions of river flow have resulted in dehydration of the agricultural fields.
